Brief

Larsen Jewellery is one of Australia's most trusted engagement ring makers. The brief: modernise the browsing and product experience without losing the craftsmanship the brand is known for.

Role

Digital Web Designer · UX/UI

Challenge

A dense catalogue, a legacy mega menu and a product landing page with too many competing signals. The redesign had to preserve the editorial calm of the brand while lifting the numbers.

Outcome

Delivered measurable improvements: a +13% uplift in conversion rate, an 8% reduction in bounce rate and a 15% increase in time on site — achieved by combining UX research, information architecture and a considered visual redesign.

Mega Menu Redesign

The existing mega menu overwhelmed shoppers by exposing every category at once and burying the most-shopped collections. A layered menu now leads with the most-shopped decisions, uses imagery to reinforce recognition, and keeps deeper navigation one calm click away.

Problem

The original mega menu exposed every category at once, creating cognitive load and burying the collections users actually shop.

Solution

A layered menu that leads with the most-shopped decisions, uses imagery to reinforce category recognition, and keeps deeper navigation one calm click away.

Outcome

Faster path to the most valuable categories, reduced menu abandonment, and a noticeable lift in engagement with featured collections in the weeks following launch.

Product Landing Page Redesign

A considered redesign of the product landing page, addressing five distinct usability problems with five focused solutions — preserving the editorial calm of the brand while lifting engagement and conversion.

Problem

  1. 1

Low Contrast: The end filter didn't clearly distinguish between selected and unselected options.

  2. 2

Insufficient Product Presence in Hierarchy: The PLP was dominated by non-content elements such as filters and secondary text, making it difficult for users to focus on the products.

  3. 3

Inefficient Use of Screen Real Estate: The design didn't optimise space to display more products, requiring users to scroll excessively.

  4. 4

Lack of Prominence for Filter and Sorting Options: Filtering and sorting controls were secondary in the layout, making them harder to locate.

  5. 5

Poor Selection of Rings on Screen: The initial view lacked variety, showing only a limited selection of rings, which failed to capture the full product range.

Solution

  1. 1

Improved Filter Contrast: Enhanced the CTA colors and states to ensure a clear distinction between selected and unselected filters, resulting in a more transparent user experience.

  2. 2

Product-Focused Hierarchy: Refined the layout to prioritise product images and reduce competing visual elements, creating a clear content-first experience.

  3. 3

Improved CTA and Sorting Placement: The most-used sorting and filter controls are surfaced at the top of the grid with obvious affordance and hover states.

  4. 4

Enhanced Visibility of Filter and Sorting: Filters live inside a persistent, always-visible rail on desktop and a bottom-sheet on mobile.

  5. 5

Optimised Layout for More Products: Reworked the grid density so more rings appear above the fold, giving users a stronger sense of the collection without excessive scrolling.

Outcome

+13%

conversion rate

−8%

bounce rate

+15%

time on site

An improved user experience and optimised layout that enhanced navigation and product presentation resulted in remarkable improvements in user engagement and conversions. Conversion rates significantly increased by 13%, indicating more users completing desired actions. Additionally, the optimised layout and improved user experience led to a substantial 8% reduction in bounce rates, reflecting improved user engagement and retention on the website. Users spend 15% more time on the site, indicating a more streamlined and efficient browsing experience.
